Biddle Institute

The Biddle Institute is the aspect of Johnson C. Smith University that is charged with preserving the institution’s commitment to open access to educational opportunity.

Student Academic Achievement Services

Johnson C. Smith University offers a variety of academic achievement services to help students to become successful, independent, and life-long learners. Use these services to help you to reach your academic goals!

Spiritual Life

JCSU cares about your spiritual life, as well as your academic pursuits. We realize that to be truly successful in life, you must nurture and grow more than your intellect. Among our freshman students alone, 42% frequently engage in spiritually enhancing activities like worship, meditation and prayer.

JCSU HealthPlex

The HealthPlex is a 5,700-square-foot facility housing the Center for Applied Health Research, the JCSU Wellness Department, a pool, cardio and strength equipment and more.

Foster Care Initiative

The Village Network Center: Phasing Up to New Possibilities Program is the cornerstone of JCSU's foster care initiative. Its goal is to remove the barriers that face youth phasing out of foster care and provide them opportunities to pursue their ambitions continued education.

Campus Police

The Johnson C. Smith University Campus Police Department provides a safe campus conducive to services which meet professional standards established for law enforcement agencies.

Crime Prevention

Preventing crime is critical to having a safe environment for teaching, learning and living. The main goal of crime prevention is to reduce the risk of being a victim, which is best achieved by removing and avoiding opportunities for a criminal to take advantage of you or your property.

"I Matter" Program

Johnson C. Smith University is devoted to putting an end to all forms of abuse and violence on campus, supporting victims of abuse and holding perpetrators accountable for their actions. The I Matter Violence Prevention and Safety Program will provide you with information on sexual assault, relationship violence and stalking.

JCSU Alert

Effective communication can save lives when emergencies happen. In the event of an emergency, JCSU strives to provide quick and accurate communication to students, faculty, staff and guests through the use of JCSU Alert and emergency procedures.

Northwest Corridor Revitalization

The Northwest Corridor Revitalization initiative is a broad-based collaborative effort to enhance the quality of life and stimulate the economy of the Beatties Ford Road/Northwest Corridor. The corridor is a major transportation route from uptown Charlotte and serves as the gateway for 37 neighborhoods, many of which are historic.

Charlotte's Web

The Charlotte's Web Technology Mentorship will provide positive relationships, personal enrichment and technology training to underserved African American and Hispanic/Latino male youth to create a "web of success," leading to powerful life outcomes.

University Communications and Marketing

The Department of University Communications and Marketing serves as a clearinghouse for publications, public announcements and the coordination of University marketing projects.

Sustainable Smith

Since 2008, Johnson C. Smith University has been part of a unique collaboration with three other colleges and universities to look for ways to become more environmentally sustainable. Created and funded by The Duke Endowment, this collaborative includes administrators, faculty and staff members from Davidson College, Duke University, Furman University and JCSU.  

Transforming STEM

JCSU's College of STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics - represents Johnson C. Smith University's educational effort to create entrepreneural leaders across the entire spectrum of the technological workforce. 

Federal Work Study

The Federal Work-Study Program allows students who need to earn money for college to work part-time for the the university and other local non-profit agencies. This program allows gives our financial aid counselors flexibility in awarding aid to students who need it the most and it allows the university to give our students "real-world" working in various university offices.

Foundations Curriculum

The Foundations element of Johnson C. Smith’s Liberal Studies Program is just that: the structural foundation upon which a student’s education is constructed. 

Conference and Events Services

We welcome the opportunity to host your organization's next event, large or small, at Johnson C. Smith University. Conference and Event Services is responsible for scheduling and/or coordinating usage of all function space on campus.
