Chief Walter Edwards

Walter Edwards has over 25 years of law enforcement experience. He previously served at Statesville Correctional Facility of Crest Hill, IL, and the Kane County Sherriff’s Department of St. Charles, IL. Throughout his Law Enforcement career, Edwards has served in numerous capacities within these agencies. 

During his time at Statesville Correctional Facility, he was part of the movement team which only consisted of eight officers. His primary function was moving all inmates to commissary, recreational time, hospital visits and church time. He was also part of the tactical team (orange crush), extracting violent inmates from cell houses and responding to riot situations. He continued to provide sound advice to some of the young men advising them to make good decisions upon release. Edwards received valuable information from inmates that he would later find useful in his law enforcement career as a police officer. 

During Edwards’s tenure with the Kane County Sheriff’s Department, he was assigned to the patrol division on the eastside of Aurora, IL, 15 miles next to the westside of Chicago. Walter attended various SWAT schools for advanced tactical training for close quarter combat and deployment regarding over bound and under watch. He attended SWAT school at Ford Lindenwood military base in Missouri, and FBI school in North Chicago where he trained in live shoot houses. He also received his certification with deployment of distraction devices and explosives through training with the FBI. Edwards was awarded the position of entry after passing the mental and strenuous physical testing procedures. He attended DEA, FBI and ATF facilities for training across the country and served as an undercover officer for each on high profile cases. Edwards has certifications in the following; Certified Juvenile Specialist, D.A.R.E. program, Citizens Police Academy, expert witness, Gang Specialist, Rapid Response, CPR Certified (AED), Crime Suppression, Interdiction, Interview and Interrogation and a host of others. 

Edwards attended Triton College, Virginia University and the College of DuPage. He and his wife, Deneatrea, are proud parents of twin girls. He also has an adult daughter and two adult sons.
